What is HSEQ?

Why should it be a priority for
every business?

HSEQ – A Definition

What is HSEQ? HSEQ stands for Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality. It is a concept that was developed to help businesses measure, track and implement processes and factors that effect: the safety of workers/other parties, the quality of the output the business is producing, and the impact the businesses’ operations has on the environment.

Health & Safety

The measures are in place to make sure all staff get home safely.

Safety is already a key factor in many industries, unfortunately, there are still an alarming number of injuries and deaths that occur during work. You can read more about the alarming statistics here. If employees become ill or injured, they often require time off work and/or their productivity suffers, not to mention the potential legal implications if an injury occurs that could have been avoided. Therefore businesses need to keep Health & Safety front of mind by implementing best practice systems and a HSEQ management system.

Environmental

Doing your bit for the planet, whilst boosting competitiveness

The environmental aspect here helps businesses improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and a reduction of waste. Thereby promoting effective environmental management throughout all organizations. The main benefit here is obviously ensuring that any negative impact of operations is minimized. However implementing these processes can also help improve image and brand credibility, not to mention the potential job opportunities and tenders that having an Environmental Management System would open. HSEQ compliance opens the doors to new and larger jobs and areas of opportunity.

Quality

Ensuring that the quality of your product/service is up to standard.

Quality plays an essential role in all businesses, whether it is controlled or not. Almost every business is able to see the negative implications that arise if the quality of the product or service being delivered is not up to expectation. That is why the Quality component here promotes businesses to check, control, and manage the quality of their outputs for their clients and customers. A proper quality management system has a net positive effect on customer satisfaction and financial growth.
