ISO Accreditation demonstrates your alignment with best practice frameworks through a formal audit by a professional third party. There are a number of benefits that come from achieving ISO accreditation, such as:
More attractive contracts and tenders: Many larger contracts and tenders require ISO accreditation as a bare minimum to ensure confidence in the products/services you are providing.
Scale & Growth: These standards are designed to help you operate more efficiently! Gearing you with the systems and processes to grow and scale your business!
Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Complying with these standards provides you with a framework to monitor and review legislative and regulatory requirements.
Competitive Differentiator: You may have seen businesses promote their accreditation on their marketing or signage, this is because it can be a key differentiator between them and their competitors as it fulfils more pre-qualification requirements.
There are two stages to an ISO Audit, it will require an evaluation of both your documented policies and procedures, and also the implementation (evidence) of your systems in action.
Stage One: will assess your policies and procedures. Auditors will want to see an outline of all your systems and processes in a documented form. Not only does this demonstrate a commitment to aligning with ISO standards, but it also provides employees and workers a guide to
follow to ensure they are operating within the structure of the management system.
Stage Two: will then review the evidence of the implementation of the management system. I.e. if you documentation suggests that all incidents are logged inside an Incident Register, you may need to provide evidence of the register in action.
Following this, you will be issued with certification that confirms your alignment with the relevant ISO standard(s). These certifications last for 3 years, with surveillance audits every 12 months to ensure you maintain compliance. So it’s important to keep the system well maintained to ensure you keep your certification.
Navigating an ISO accreditation can be difficult, especially if you are in the dark about what you are required to do (ISO actually require customers to purchase a copy of the standard). This can lead businesses to feel that accreditation is a job too large for them to undertake.
Luckily there’s SafeWrite, a cloud-based solution to not only help you meet the requirements of Stage 1 and Stage 2 of your ISO audits, but actually streamline the ongoing management of these systems so nothing gets left behind or missed.
